Winter, Ignatius
Ignatius Winter was born August 25, 1810 and died March 25, 1890, in Boston. He married Lane's sister, Sarah Ann Lane in 1834. The Winters had seven children, one of whom was named for Sarah's brother: Fitz Henry Winter. Winter lived with his family and Lane in the gabled granite house that Lane had built on his Duncan's Point land. When Lane sold the house to Joseph L. Stevens, Jr. on July 14, 1862, Winter and his family were forcibly ejected, provoking a lawsuit between Stevens and Winter. (1)

"Ignatius Winter v. Joseph L. Stevens, Jr.—This was an action of tort brought by the plaintiff to recover damages for personal injury in ejecting him from his dwelling house, as the plaintiff claimed. Defendant justified his expulsion of the plaintiff on the ground that he expelled him from his own, the defendant's house, using no more force than was reasonably necessary to accomplish this."

At the law term of the Supreme Court, last week, the case of Fitz H. Lane vs. Eli F. Stacy, adm'r of E. H. Stacy, was argued and decided. It appeared that said Lane and E. H. Stacy were joint sureties on a note for the accommodation of Ignatius Winter, who had given to said Stacy security in a mortgage of certain personal property. The note was finally paid by said Lane, who claimed the benefit of the security given to Stacy, but his administrator refused and cancelled the mortgage. This was a bill in equity to compel said administrator to give up said security to Lane, and the court entered a decree in conformity to the prayer of the petitioner and for costs. Smith, Phillips.
